thanks a latte

I just want to say thank you to everyone for your lovely comments about my first ever TV appearance! It's always difficult to watch oneself on video. All of your kudos and well wishes really mean a lot to me.

I took this shot the day before taping. I went into the empty studio with the stylists and producer to review all of my project steps and get the lay of the land. The set was freezing! It is unheated because during the show the lighting gives off a lot of heat. I like this photo because it shows a contrast of styles. Mainly beautifully organized and creatively messy! :)

So what's Martha really like? That's what inquiring minds want to know. Beats me...I mean, she seemed super nice during the 12 minutes I was standing next to her. I met her only seconds before taping. She's really tall, I can tell you that! I am 5'6" and I felt a smidge shrimpy...

Was I nervous? Yes, intermittenly. Especially right before I walked out on stage. I wasn't nervous at all during the show, there was too much to do! It was my job to keep Martha on task and to just keep going and get it done. The producers worked closely with me to plan the steps of the process and how much time to spend. They were especially fabulous to work with and really made me feel at ease.

(love the expressions in this shot!)

Isn't it exciting? Just a normal crafty mom like me got to be on TV to show Martha Stewart some stuff I make. It's so surreal. You can do it, too. Why not?

Hi, it was nice watching you in the video with Martha Stewart, after reading your blog and admiring your pincushions . I wish you good luck with everything and I can't wait to try making the pincushion cup myself. ( I liked looking at all those colored threads on the back of the studio, very tempting)

Tell us how you managed to get on Martha's show in the first place. If you posted that before, I must have missed it. I've imagined it must be difficult. Your craft was right up her alley, though. Is there a process?

What a hoot that must be to have those pictures of you and Martha! Thanks for posting them, as I wasn't able to watch the show.

Yeah!! I got to watch you on Martha in the UK - hurrah! Congratulations on your success - can't wait for the book to come out now!

Hey Betz, I think you were great on the MS show. In fact, I think you were amazing. Martha seemed willing to drift off talking about herself and in general just talk too much. I think the whole thing would have been better without her! You stayed on task and were crystal clear; no easy feat given the cameras, Martha, etc. So a big pat on the back to you!

You were wonderful, and Martha really loved the project (how could she not). We are on a one day delay, so I will actually see it again today on the big screen, and of course it's being TIVO'D. Job well done.

Betz - your were great! I Tivo-ed (is that a word?) the show and watched it with my five year old. She now wants a cup o' joe! You were a complete natural on air....good things are surely coming your way!

Why not??? 'Cause we don't have those adorable pin cushion ideas that YOU have! You were awesome on the show -- I think we should watch again and count the number of times Martha said "so cute" -- she loved them. How could she not? Jumbo Congratulations -- can't wait for the book!

I watched it last night and you really were a natural. You didn't look nervous at all (I would have been!) Considering you've never been on camera and all.. you were adorable and so is your artwork! I guess I assumed you've been doing this type of thing forever so yours is an inspiring story to hear!

Shows like Martha's are always on the prowl for crafters that can do something quick, cute and appropriate for their shows. I was contacted by a producer, but most shows (incl. MS) have a "be on the show" link on their sites telling how to submit ideas, etc. Go for it! :)

Congrats again, I love the last shot-both your expressions are just adorable. Love the organised and creatively messy picture, I am definitely the messy one :) You should count the number of times Martha said the word 'cute' during the show, she was definitely awe-strucken!

The segment was brilliant. I really enjoyed seeing how the project came together. You seemed to be having fun and didn't appear at all nervous. Congratulations. It's really amazing how much has happened for you in just over a year.

Saw you on her show last week--amazingly cute! You did a GREAT job, and your creativity was inspiring! Just wondering if there was somewhere--anywhere--that steps the project out? (Martha, in her greatness, doesn't always provide time for that on her shows!) If it is coming in your book--cool. I plan on buying it anyway! If not--can you point me to the right direction? Thanks!

Betz, I think you deserve a medal for how you handled Martha- you have the patience of a saint. I find it hard to watch her because she interrupts her guests constantly and sometimes they don't finish showing what they were brought there to do or finish an answer to her question. Well enough about her- we still watch but for the guest (such as yourself)!!

I love your creations and have your book. Can't wait for the next one to come out. I was wondering if you could tell me where to get that craft felt you mention at the beginning of your book. I can't seem to find it and yes, pure wool craft felt is pricey. I have acquired quite the stash of recycled wool garments, all washed, shrunk and disassembled, to soon take on new lives as something fun and useful. It burns me up to think of all the moth attacked or accidentally shrunken sweaters that make their way into landfills before one of us gets ahold of them.

I should mention that I live in Belgium (since 11/07) and moved here from Baltimore. I wish I met you when I was there. Well, life has a way of coming full circle, so who knows. Keep up the great work and thank you for being an inspiration to folks all over the world!
Deb aka Kiwi Jane -soon to be on Etsy (just like you- but with different stuff)

Hi Deborah,
Thanks so much for your great comments. I get the felt from Joann's, or sometimes search etsy for "commercial supplies". The wool blend felt is from National Nonwovens called "WoolFelt". Hope that helps!
