let the games begin

It's finally spring here in Wisconsin and the weather is gorgeous. The sun is shining, the sky is blue and the garage sales are popping up all over! I also did a little thrifting this week. Found a nice table cloth and a pretty yellow sheet with springy bouquets. They will surely become reincarnated into something else as soon as they tell me what they want to be.

Garage sale drive-by's and thrift store runs have become regular occurances for my kids. My 5 year old has developed a little game to entertain himself at Goodwill called "buy me". While I scour the racks for wool sweaters, he wedges himself in between the clothes. He stands there, only feet showing out the bottom. I flip through the clothes until I get to him. There I stand, in amazement. "My goodness, this is JUST what I was looking for! A boy! This is my lucky day!" I go on to ask how much he is and I pretend to check my wallet to be sure I have enough. Fortunately he usually only costs a dollar or two. :)

He's pretty fun to bring thrifing, actually. I'll never forget the time he petted a sweater and said quite loudly, "Mommy is this one cashmere?" Raised quite a few eyebrows, that little monkey. A nearby shopped remarked, "That's the youngest person I've ever heard say the word 'cashmere'!" What can I say? The kid has taste.

Aww, your boy is the cutest. I can see him growing up to be a thrifting connoisseur. Love the 'buy me' story :)

Sounds like you manage to turn shopping with 'little ones' into fun. Love your vintage finds. I have to be absolutely 'certain' before I can re-cycle a piece of vintage linen. I have many pieces still waiting in the queue!

What a sweet and adorable story. Children are truly a blessing from God. My mother taught me the joys of garage sales, auctions and estate sales as a young child. I can never pass up a great sale now!
