forecast: fun

The kids finally have a decent snow day! Yay! Five inches.

The bush out front is wearing little hats.

Out back this morning I saw two doe galloping through the park! Frollicking! They took off between the houses and through the neighborhood. Guess deer school was canceled today, too.

I can see the kids out my studio window in the park behind our house. Fortunately, I can't see the sledding hill, but when every kid in the neighborhood is out there, I sure can hear it! (photo taken through a dirty window with a screen)

I'm happy to have a use for all of the bread bags I've been saving. My husband, growing up in Michigan, said they used to put them on over their socks, inside their boots! I tried it for my little guy after he got a bunch of snow in his boots. Must be working!

Stay warm!

Bread bags and boots! I grew up in Indiana and we totally used them! Helped get the boots on and off and helped keep your feet dry! Thanks for the memories! i think I need an exclamation point intervention....

We used bread bags too! What a great reminder, especially at this time of year when the boots are getting a little hole-y. Michigan's officially got less snow than you ... today.

OOH! I wish I saw this BEFORE my kids went outside to play! What a cool idea! Of course, my kids were ready to play at 7:30! Have a fun snow day! xo-Mel

So that's what bread bags are for! I grew up in NH, and I always felt bad for the bread bag kids. I thought their boots leaked and they couldn't afford better ones. (My boots tied at the top.)

Hey Betz,

Snow there and 60 degrees here in Montana!!! Our town has turned into a sea of mud and running water; my boys are in heaven!!!

A side note; I purchased Anna Maria Horner's new book and made the "One of Everything Purse" but used felted sweaters and it turned out awesome. I highly reccommend her book!! Great projects!! Have another wonderful snowy day!!! Mariah in Montana

In Ottawa, plastic bags in boots are a necessity. Eventhough we have spare boots (4 kids means people often bless us with hand-me-downs) and proper technique (drawstrings tightened and snow pants over the boots) we still find up with snow in the boots. For us to have a snow day we have to have closer to ten inches or freezing rain. Scrolling through Martha's Craft of the Day, I caught your Cup of Joe segment that I must have missed. Well done! You did not look the slightest bit nervous. How do you create the saucer, as it seemed glossed over in the segment? I make felted purses using recycled sweaters but I am inspired to try a pincushion with my scraps. I like to encorporate the cuffs in my designs if I can, but still wind up with scraps. When I started to take apart sweaters, it did not occur to me to cut the seams. The sewer in me automatically unpicked the seams. I use the yarm to needlefelt some of my decorative details. This allows me to have materials in the same colour pallet with out an extensive/expensive/not recycled roving collection.

What a great idea! Though all of my bread bags are destined to hold stinky diapers right now!

This grown Mom still uses bread bags in my boots...like your husband, in the Midwest we could stay out so much longer with dry feet. The bags that the daily paper is delivered in work great, too. Great for ice skates. The snow day sounded so fun, beautiful pictures.

Love the bread bags too! Brings back memories of my grandmother's stash of bread bags, pie tins, and glass jars. I don't think she ever bought a baggie or a piece of tupperware.

jenifir,
Look on Martha's site for written instructions and see if that helps with the saucer!
