Stu-Stu-Studio!

Today the mailman brought my long awaited spring issue of Studios Magazine! You may recall the sneak peek of my tidied-up workspace from January. Now that the issue is out (well, actually March 31st) I thought I'd share a few pics that didn't make it in the mag.

Here's me at my sewing machine, which you can see is right by my window to the backyard and neighborhood park. Mixed blessing, that view. Mostly great. Sometimes nerve wracking and noisy. The idea board behind me is painted homasote my husband put up for me. I used to have lots of little bulletin boards but this is a luxurious expanse by comparison.

Hanging above me on the retractable clothesline is a Clothes Pin Caddy made from a refashioned blouse. (I made this project special for Studios Magazine, so check out the issue for all of the how-to details!) I loooove my clothesline to hang even more swatches and inspiration.

You would not believe the amazing and inspiring studios shown in this issue. You'll see, you'll have total studio-envy. I'm even envious of my own studio. Good thing it has been documented in all it's tidy-glory, because I'm sure it'll NEVER look that organized again. It certainly doesn't now!

Great space- and just as perky as your design with all the vivid pops of color. Nice and bright, too.
*I have homasote board too that I spray glued and covered in fabric. Great way to fill a wall and not too expensive.
Next time at B&N I'll check out the issue.

Looks great - I can't wait for the magazine to come out. And that clothesline is brilliant!!! It never occurred to me to do that - I'm going to Lowe's tomorrow!

Gorgeous Studio! I love it when mine is tidied up, but it never lasts-even while I'm tidying (and finding things) I'm itching to start new things....and then I do and it's messy again...sigh. I also have clothes lines around the walls. I love putting up stuff that inspires-Projects to do and such. Thanks for sharing.
BTW is that a magazine that we can pick up at news stands?

I got my issue in the mail today but haven't opened it yet. I'm saving it for the weekend. :) I will have to make that clothespin bag...it is just adorable.

I'm making one of your cashmere bunnies for my granddaughter for Easter. It's cut, pinned and ready to sew.

I love your work and the fact that you share it with all of us. Thanks, Lynn

Betz, I checked out your other studio photos and I really like the critter pillows. Are you willing to share the "new applique technique" you used for these or are they in the magazine? Looks like you just used one fabric cut in the critter shape but I cannot quite tell if the top designs are just stitching or something is laid on top of the fabric and stitch down. Either way, I think they are great. And also, you look so great sitting in your studio. Nice photo!!!

Hi Karen L,
Thanks for your comment. Ah yes, the critter pillows. Something I keep meaning to get to! I will go into detail about them sometime. Still trying to decide if they are something I want to sell or demo or ??? Anyway, they are reverse appliqued. More about them soon!

Hi Betz,
I was following your twitter and you were looking for an eco friendly easter egg and I came across this on Etsy by accident.

I read her blog and saw it in her etsy sidebar. I think they're great! And made of felt!!
Thought you'd like them.

Love that clothespin caddy! My mom used to have something similar, but it was much more blah and boring. Yours is so cute and fresh (as if I'm surprised)!
