inspiring me

Not laundry, sillies...pillowcases!

I've been collecting them at the thrift shops and have loads of ideas for fun stuff to make out of them. I'm working on a tutorial right now. It should be ready for you sometime next week!

(p.s. thanks for the work out ideas, you guys rock! See comments in the last post if you need some ideas for yourself.)

I am SO glad that I'm not the only person obsessed with thrifted pillowcases. I make billions of things out of them for my little girls, but I can't wait to see what new things you come up with!

I also have lots of pillowcases (most of them have embroidery on them). I'm also curious what you'll come up with!

I thought I was the only one who collected pillowcases from thrift shops. Here's a project I made:

Question about the sandwich wrap in Sewing Green. You have listed some websites for purchasing PUL. These all sell PUL for making diapers. Is this thinner than the PUL that you used? Yours looks thicker-and yours has patterns! Also, could you use cheap plastic backed table cloths? I saw some in Home goods yesterday and I was wondering if they could be used. I love the idea (especially making 5 lunches every day), but just wonder about using fabric that the kids will be ok using...

Georgia,
Try searching Ebay for PUL diaper cuts. You want 1 mil PUL on cotton (not poly). Do not use tablecloths, they are vinyl and not food safe.
Good luck!

I'm thrilled to hear I'm not the only one hoarding thrift store pillowcases! I've been making pillowcase dresses/tops for my daughter, but would love some new inspiration!! Can't wait to see what ideas you've come up with!! CHEERS -- Sonja

Hi Betz. I just did my podcast on crafty thrifting, and the wonders of linens, including a review of the Pillowcase Challenge book. I even gave you credit for introducing me to thrift stores. Please let me know what you think!

I have some, but they are ugly. Actually, they are my bf's and that's why they are ugly. Men who grew up in the 80's, sorry if you know a man that did, but oy vey. Drives me nuts.

He won't let me get rid of his daughter's old crib set b/c it cost $300. It's flowery and pastel, I like bright & modern (like skinnylaminx or anna maria horner or jess jones fabrics). Anyway, any ideas because making it into a quilt?

Thanks for the comment on my blog:) We must be kindred spirits - some of the linens you have photographed are also in my stash.

I can't wait to read the new book!
