No, I'm not still talking about my hair. We went on a little nature walk this weekend. You never know what you'll discover.
Amber globs of sap, decorating a tree.
Something shed and left behind...
Mr. Toad, chillaxin' in his tree stump...
Bright and amazing looking fungi...
...the size of dinner plates!
I'm so looking forward to fall, my favorite season! Really, the jeans and sweaters just can't come fast enough in my opinion. Speaking of weird + wonderful, my boys are already ramping up for Halloween. Yes, we are well into the costume planning stages and have even started some assembly. And for me this fall? Knitting will take center stage. I've already made this cardigan but it needs buttons. These baby booties are on my needles for a shower coming up next weekend. I'll show you both when they are done.
What weird + wonderful things are happening with you?

Love the Shalom Cardi, it's in my favs on Ravelry! Any pics of it on?
Looks like it was a wonderful walk - the colors pop even tho they're earthy and subdued - love it! Esp the Toad!!!! Wow!
*speaking of amber, my code word is midambre. neato.
Love the cardi - thanks so much for the link!
Weird + wonderful?? I'm giving my two weeks notice tomorrow....weird because it is scary, wonderful because I will be home every day taking care of my home, my hubs, and myself. Thanks for all the inspiration, now I will have more time to work on my crafts and sewing.
Isn't it fun to think that Amber comes from sweet gooey stuff... I love how warm it gets when you wear jewelry made of it. I made a ton of knitted for Christmas last year but it is all about bags and quilts this year. Can't wait to see your projects when they are finished.
Beautiful photos!!
That first shot of sap is magical. It looks like something from a fantasy film.
I looooveee mushrooms. Having grown on a small mediterranean island, largely too hot and steamy for fungal growth, I do appreciate forest walks in Ireland where I now live, and spotting out mushrooms in the undergrowth. Though I can't say I am quite as keen on mildew.. especially when it sneaks into my bookshelves.. grr!
Such sweet photos :) And talking about your hair is okay ;) Hair is one of the awesome things in life after all! xoxo
'Oh' my that is weird, but very 'very' wonderful. Lovely pictures,
Nina x
Wow what lovely pictures! Where is this?
Linziloop,
Believe it or not, this is in on a path in our very suburban neighborhood in a teeny strip of woods. We live in Maryland near Washington DC.

such beautiful, interesting photos. i love how the amber glows with sunlight. it's quite magical. and cicada shells are always so fun to find. they look like little alien creatures that have escaped their pods. my sister used to be afraid of cicada shells, so of course i would decorate her window screens with them at night. that way when she opened her shades in the morning it looked like the cicadas were coming to attack!
Your mystery shedding is a cicada carapace. They've hatched all over our yard this year. I hope that means another 17 years before we get these again, but I fear not!
Anna,
Cool! I knew it was from a cicada but that's about it. Thanks!

I love the weird and wonderful! Looks like a lovely trip through the woods - thanks for the share!
I also love fall!
I'm with you, I love fall. I can't wait to put that first sweater on. I love your nature photos. Isn't it amazing what you can discover when you LOOK. I have one sleeve on a cardigan I started 2 years ago. I'm a bit reluctant to finish it as I have a feeling I may have knitted the back in a different size...sigh. And a quilt, and painting walls...loads to keep me busy. But today, the sun is out-so I'll celebrate the last of summer!
What wonderful pictures! Especially love the lighting on the sap and exoskeleton, very cool. You must have had a pair of little eyes with you to help you spot all those treasures!
The cicada 'shell' made me go down the memory lane! I have moved to a much colder climate now, so I don't see much insects here...like cicadas, butterflies, beetles and praying mantas are some that I remember as a child. I remember fondly of my childhood catching cicadas and how their sound makes the humidity to intensify on lazy summer afternoons.
Please don't rip the whole thing out or stuff it in a drawer never to be seen again! If you can't fix it and will really never wear it donate it to someone who really needs a sweater this fall. Some cold homeless person would be so happy to have it, I am sure, and would overlook any minor styling you are unhappy with.
I am not a knitter and find it just amazing that you have enough patience to make a whole sweater stitch by stitch. You just can't rip them all out.
You have to tell me where you go for your walks in the woods. Come over and we can walk around clopper lake anytime this fall (right by my house).
These are beautiful images and goodness... I'm thinking I need to go on a walk with you. You really pay attention! I've gone on nature walks before, but never have I been able to take pictures like these. Bravo!
