Since I finished my socks last trip, I’m going to need to bring along some new knitting with me tomorrow when I head to Boston. I’ve been asked to speak at the Greater Boston Knitting Guild‘s monthly meeting. I know! Me, the “sweater destroyer”. Me, intentional ruiner of all wool sweaters in the name of felty goodness. Actually, I’m quite honored, not to mention a little nervous. I plan on doing a “trunk show” of all the projects from Warm Fuzzies, answer questions and hopefully sign a few books. Sounds easy, right? …eh.
Ok, what to knit on the plane. I’ve decided to go with my old reliable, the “Pillbox Hat”, from helloknitty. You can see how it looks when worn there…I’m not in the mood to model it for you today. (It’s going to reach 80 degrees again this afternoon!) I’ve made this hat several times and it’s super fast and fun to knit. The original pattern calls for Cascade yarn, but I substituted. The green one in front was knit with Lion Brand Yarn: one skein of Wool-Ease in avocado and one ball of Landscape in county sunset and I was able to get two hats out of it. Yes, I knit the exact same hat twice. I lost the first one at the Goodwill. Let me tell you, that is one place you don’t want to lose an article of clothing! I’m fairly certain it was picked up and tagged. Oh well, I consider it a donation to charity. (sorry, I can’t remember the yarn used in the hat in back)
When I got my mitts from Woolarina, I also picked up some yummy yarn, here on the right. The hat calls for two yarns to be stranded together, so I’m going to try combining it with this cotton Classic Elite “flash” leftover from an ill-fated shrug I’ve never worn. I should probably test the gauge before I head off on my travels. (Oh, and one note on this pattern. It calls for size #15 circular needles. Make sure they are 16″ long, or you will have troubles with the decreases at the end.)
I’ll be back end of week. Just in time to slap together the rest of the werewolf costume for a Halloween party my son was invited to next weekend! Yikes!
really? 80 degrees? Oh, Betz…yes you’ll need that beautiful hat for the shock your body will feel once you land in New England. 😉 Have a wonderful weekend! Wishing I could pop down for a hello…
Super cute hats, Betz! I’ll have to order the pattern – I think I have just the right yarn(s) in my basket for this project.
I’ve been looking for something to throw on my sticks. Tis the season!
Have a safe trip.

Great to see you using that woolarina yarn for this hat. I have to check out that pattern, looks very cute and easy. Have a safe trip and have fun at the guild meeting!
Great hats …we could use a few here in Utah …it’s been below freezing and we had snow over the weekend!
PS Forgot to mention ….love the little ‘crank’ tool from previous post! Thanks for sharing the link!
hi! i don’t remember how i found your blog – but i just checked out your book, WARM FUZZIES on Amazon and it looks so fun! I may try the “rustic blanket” – it’s something a non-knitter (me!) could make! i love to sew and applique and embroider. your show sounds very fun! i hope it goes well!

Have a safe trip! We are still in the 80’s here in north Dallas. We had a little rain today, but the humidity was almost unbearable. Wishing for cooler temps to even wear long sleeve shirts at this point!
Bon voyage! How easy is the hat? I just learned to knit in the summer and so far I’ve only made dishcloths but I love it! It’s almost hat weather here now and definitely time for mitts in the mornings, I need to learn some new skills.
