I’m one of those people that always has Kleenex with me. In my purse, coat pocket, jeans, door handle of the car. I gotta have one with me at all times. I’m just a Kleenex kinda girl. That’s why I was so excited when a friend of mine who works for Kimberly Clark asked me to design a box for the Kleenex Holiday Collection!

I created this peace dove design over a year ago. Yes, even tissue boxes take a whole year to develop! These two close-up shots are of the original appliqued artwork that I hand embroidered.

The doves are wool felt, stitched with silver embroidery floss. The background is cream colored felted wool from a thrifted sweater. The blue stitched swirls are pearl cotton floss embellished with tiny swarovski crystal beads. The company photographed the artwork and printed the design onto the cardboard boxes.

I’ve had my eye out for them at the grocery store and finally found them today! My parents and mother-in-law will be so excited. In fact, I think they have anticipated this Kleenex box with more interest than anything else I’ve done lately. “Your book looks nice, Honey, but when is the Kleenex box coming out?” It makes me chuckle. And I never thought I’d see my work sold at the grocery. For under 2 bucks. That makes me chuckle, too.

Have you seen the Kleenex “Let it out” ad campaign? Kinda charming. And here’s good news, if you’re interested. I was poking around the Kleenex website and discovered that YOU can design your own Kleenex box! Who knew?

Kinda brings a tear to my eye. Sniff.
